Street Feeders -5043

Gary Liew. Street Feeders of KL
Medan Pasar, Kuala Lumpur 2017

On a cool night at Medan Pasar, I met Gary Liew who started the Street Feeders of KL programme. As a young boy, he used to
participate in feeding programmes organised by his mother and
he has never forgotten what a difference it made to people who
were homeless.

Rather than feeding from a fixed station, Gary and his volunteers
fan out in different groups from Medan Pasar, carrying food and refreshments for the homeless they would encounter along their path.

This method of carrying food to their ‘clients’ allowed interaction between the volunteers and the homeless. People encountered who were injured would be put in touch with the doctors from the Teddy Mobile Clinic and those in need of a job could be directed elsewhere.

The Street Feeders Programme has already been duplicated in
other cities around Malaysia and the world.
