The third culture kid
Sasha Xi Lin Hill, little artist and aspiring zookeeper
Sasha loves to draw animals, particularly elephants and giraffes, and she hopes the skill will come in useful one day when she becomes a zookeeper.
Of English and Malaysian parentage, Sasha has spent a significant amount of her young life living abroad because of her father’s job.
Growing up in Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok and Singapore, she fits into the phenomenon of “third culture kids” – children who spend a significant portion of their developmental years in a culture outside their parents’ cultures. Having said that, she wears her Malaysian identity with pride, saying, “I can’t understand it when people say I am half Chinese. I was not born in China, and neither was my mum. We are Malaysians, see.”
