“She has given me back my dignity”

SHYAM PRIAH – Founder of Yellow House KL

Malaysians (Interviewed in 2018)

SHYAM WORKED IN THE CORPORATE SECTOR for a number of years before she started My

Khatulistiwa, a business consultancy. In spite of having to manage her consultancy who specialise in corporate social responsibility (CSR), she soon found herself spending more time with community projects initiated under Yellow House Kuala Lumpur which she founded in 2012.

Shyam’s passion is for the homeless and underprivileged. Some of the projects have included washing hair for her street clients. “My father, Marimuthu Suppiah was a huge inspiration in what I do now for others,” she says.

Her latest project, Unseen Tours, aims to train street people to be tour guides. Josh Kam is one of her first tour guides. Having been down on his luck, he is grateful for the opportunities given to him by Shyam and her project. Some of us are judgemental of the homeless while Shyam has chosen to do something about it.
