Sin See Tai Barber, Jalan Jawa, Melaka
When his father started the barber shop in 1953, Mr Chong joined as an apprentice and it has been his life ever since. As he gave me one of the best haircuts I’ve ever had, he told me how bigger-sized customers who wanted a shave had to sit on the Japanese-made chair because it was more stable when fully reclined compared to the China-made chairs. He said that his business is dwindling as his regulars pass away but he is reluctant to break with tradition by hiring shampoo girls.
