Bakar learned how to craft the unique Bajau parang from his father, who had learned from his own father. Looking at Bakar’s young grandson following him around, it’s safe to say that this family tradition will be safe for another generations.

The Bajau are famous horsemen and I had wanted to photograph Bakar next to his horses but they had a mind of their own. Each time we got too close, they would bolt.
